Oscar in Wythenshawe Park

Oscar and I had a baptism of water rather than fire this morning, light rain when I arrived was soon replaced by sunshine and we both hoped it would last, not to be as the Manchester weather struck again, heavens opened and we both got soaked.

He behaved impeccably throughout and I’m very pleased to have him in the pack!

Busy week!

Busy week this week, including welcoming a new friend Oscar, he’s a determined little terrier cross looks like quite the character! Pictures to follow.

First off though I’m really excited about seeing Barney & Roxy this morning and seeing how they’re getting on with their training.

Training Pt. 2

Out again with Barney & Roxy today and it’s clear up see they’re intelligent, responsive dogs. They’ve almost entirely stopped pulling on the lead and their recall skills are through the roof.

These guys are lucky to have owners willing to put some time into them.

We still have to work on their posing skills mind you.

Barney managed a good one though.

Training

Barney and Roxy are training, both on and off the lead. On lead they’re working on pulling, being the pack leader is vital here, you should be first through gates, doors etc, try to make them walk behind you if they start pulling, you are the leader, not them.

Pretend to have some of the treat first when you reward them, you are pack leader so you get first dibs on food.
Recall training involves a long lead and a secure place, with the lead on call or whistle, whistling carries better so I recommend that, if they don’t come reel them in and only reward when they come to you themselves, not if you’re hauling them to you, repeat this as much as you can, it’s a slow process but everyone wins in the end!

As you can see, smiling for the camera training is next!

Chorlton Ees

Bit of a change for Jess today, been round Chorlton Water Park loads recently so it was a trip down to the Ees for a different walk and some new smells to smell.

She seemed pleased with it with a waggy tail for the whole walk.

Looked really nice today, even though the sun we enjoyed this morning had gone and it was overcast by the time we got out there!

Chorlton Water Park

I love walking here, it’s an oasis of peace and nature in the city, you can just about hear the city and there’s always other signs it’s there but here is a doggie paradise of water, trees, open areas and smells!

Domestic and wild animals all make their mark here and the dogs love it!
